Application approved for headhouse and temporary road at Eltham site

The Royal Borough of Greenwich Council’s Area Planning Committee has approved our application for the construction of a permanent shaft and headhouse, at our site in Eltham.

This will enable us to build a permanent shaft and headhouse at our proposed site at Eltham as well as a temporary access route from Welling Way, across Falconwood Field. We are able to build the tunnels and shafts under our permitted development rights, which means we do not need planning permission for the entire project.

Headhouses are needed to cover the shafts and, are required for ventilation and as a permanent point of access for the tunnel once it is built.

Our proposed site at Eltham is located on land owned by UK Power Networks and it is currently occupied by the Welling and District Model Engineering Society. We are currently seeking the land rights for this site, and sadly the Welling and District Model Engineering Society will need to find a new home. We will continue to work closely with the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the London Borough of Bexley and UK Power Networks, to explore possible options for the society.
